Yummy!
I don't know about you but I love having some healthy snacks on hand.
Super Baby Food – Ruth Yaron
1.5 cups rolled oats
¼ cup wheat germ
¼ cup ground nuts (I grounded almonds)
¼ cup nonfat dairy milk
½ cup dried fruit
¼ tsp cinnamon
1 beaten egg
¼ cup melted butter or oil
5 tablespoons of honey (I oiled spoon first and honey slid off)
¼ tsp vanilla
Mix all dry ingredients.
Mix wet ingredients and add to dry ingredients.
Add more honey to moisten or dried oats to dry if necessary.
Press into 8 x 8 baking pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes, cool, and cut into bars.
I'd like to add ground flax seed - how much do you think would be good?

Those sound awesome & my parents would totally dig em.. Bookmarking & will make em soon!
1Just ate them - so good. I baked for 25 minutes - that seems to be good.
2Yum! I'm going to make these for sure.
3What dried fruit did you use
4Oh & I add flax to my smoothies, yogurt, etc... I just add a teaspoon
5I got a mixed one. I think there were raisins, cranberries, dates, peaches, and bananas.
6This looks wonderful.

kids will love them
thank you for posting this, GC
8Awesome! Jackson loves granola bars.
9It occurred to me.. be sure to use the rolled oats and not quick oats. I think there will be a difference.
10Thanks GirlC. So it will say rolled oats on the package?
11I get mine in bulk and they are identified as Rolled Oats. I just looked at my oat cereal box and they are listed as Quick... so yeah I think you should be able to know the difference, i.e. they won't be listed as just oats.
12Got it, thanks!
13Oh, I'll make those for sure! Granola bars are rare and expensive over here. I'll add some flax seeds to them too. BTW, I read somewhere that they need to be crushed if you want your body to absorb the maximum nutrients.
14Karma, I also add psyllium to my yogurt. I read that it's super healthy and it helps digestion and ''elimination''.
Finn - yes - you need to grind or crush the flax for the body to absorb, otherwise it goes right through. I have a coffee grinder I put mine in then leave the excess in the refrigerator.
15I just got a juicer & used it for the first time this morning.. I guess if I blend the juice with a banana I can add the flax to it
And apparently the pulp of the fruit & veg is great to cook with
16wonderful! just wondering if there is a reason the milk should be non-fat?? thanks so much!
17Oh, and do you know how long its safe to *keep* them around? just wondering if it said in the recipe...
